Why does my 98 nissan altima make a squealing noise when i first start accelerating but stop when i get my?

speed up? It is 1998 Nissan Altima, and here recently the water in it was low and I filled it up but now its making a squealing sound..? What can this be? And how can it be fixed.|||The belt could be the culprit, but since you mentione your coolant level was low, it could have caused your water pump to cavitate becuase of air. Try getting your belts replaced first. If that doesn't stop the squealing, have your water pump removed/inspected by a reputable mechanic and see if it needs replacing.|||It could be a worn out fan belt / serpentine belt. As you hit the gas, the belt slips and squeals. In a few seconds the belt grabs and operates normally. I'd replace it, cost is around $20 and pretty easy to do on most cars.

If the squealing persists, have someone hit the gas as you look under the hood, trying to find the noise. Could be a bad pulley or water pump bearing.
