Is It possible to drive a nissan skyline r32 or r34 gtr in california?

im going to japan to buy a nissan skyline r32 or r34 and imported here in the us...is that possible?|||A job for Yourself whom have to do your research for where you live as many will say the Skyline is not street illegal in the US but infact it differs between states, example some states require the car to be made LHD whilst others dont mind, some states require added safety features on older Skyline models. Some states will not allow the Skyline at all,but all states require the car to meet emission regs.

The easiest it bring in is the R33 96-98 models due to added safety features being stock at this point and these where models tested by Motorex as for the Motorex issue they didnt go to jail for selling bad Skyline although the false testing didnt help. But with the right money and mods other Skyline are creeping in and i see som many R34 Skyline on the net in the US nowdays.

So all those that say the Skyline is illegal it is and it isnt again it depends where you live and what puts people off is the cost of mods to make it meet US regs hence putting young buyers off and older buyers usually go for newer models of cars.

A common legal need on the R32 models is a strong bar adding between the rear fuel tank and the rear seats.

Dont forget to look at other skyline models as the R34 GTR for instance is expensive not matter where you buy it from in the world, other great models are the R32,R33,R34 GTS,GTS-T,GTS-4,GT,GTT.

Also the Stagea model is a good choice.|||Yeah, as long as it came from Morotorex. They're the only ones who can make the car legal to drive in the US. But considering the price to be $70000, it's kind of steep and insurance companies categorize this car as a "specialty" car, similar to restored American classic cars. It's just too expensive to own for a Japanese import, but you can't stop hardcore enthusiasts from getting one.|||If you bought it from the now dead Skyline importer MotorEx. Then yes, because they would have taken all the necessary steps to get it certified as street legal. Meaning bumper, and crash safety minium standards, emissions, and necessary smog hardware. But MotorEx does not exist anymore. And if you want one that badly, then you will have to file a ton of paperwork, get the car retrofitted to U.S. crash and emissions standards; document every step and then get it inspected. Not to mention the actual cost of shipping one and going through customs and taxes is outrageously high. But it can be done. Just be prepared for a mountain of redtape.

You may be better off finding one the cars the MotorEx actually sold in the U.S. Maybe the owner will want to part with it (yeah right...but hey try)

I have a strong feeling that you are better off buying the new Skyline that will be released soon.|||There are still people ways to get a skyline registered in the state I'm not a liberty to say because the are illegal but check out some skyline or 240 forums and those guys can give you a **** load of ways to get the car registered.|||Read this article.

There are ways to get the cars into America, and it can be registered at a state level, but be aware of one thing. You car will not be in federal compliance with NHTSA and EPA standards.

Please read everything in that article just so you have an idea of what you may be getting yourself into.|||Bringing a R34 here to the states will get you some serious head turns but you'll pay well over 100K for it. Now when you weigh the price of that VS the $70,000 2008 GTR which one would make more sense to you? You got deep pockets?|||Yes, but only if you have money out your ***. and it will be in shop for a long time to meet all of the emmissions. California also has the most strict emmisions laws. better have money out the ***.|||here is one for sale at a nissan dealership in illinois.|||it must suck to not able to have skylines in the states
